WelcomeWelcome to the MegaDCC homepage This site is dedicated to creating a modular DCC train controller that can be built by the home model train user without requiring any great amounts of hardware knowledge. The system will be built in modules with the aim to keep them fairly generic in their interface so that they can be used with other home built modules or even commercial ones. For instance, using the MegaDCC DCC unit with a commercial booster unit.
The project has just started, and aims to first create a DCC controller with a local (inbuilt) throttle control and keypad along with PC/serial interface to allow control via computer. As the project develops, we hope to add a loco-net interface, a booster circuit and other enhancements that anyone is willing to suggest. Software-wise, the software will strive to me modular as well and allow the person installing to software/firmware to specify what features they want. For example, if the Local control/throttle isn't needed, that part of the software wont be compiled in.
Continuing with design, the controller will be based upon a Atmel Mega processor (hence the name MegaDCC) and will use commercial available prebuilt (and I hope low cost) materials whenever possible. We would also like to create a Atmel based DCC decoder solution as well for in the trains. Best of all, the design work and source code will all be under the GNU licensing. Sound good? - Think you would like to help? - Think you have a good idea to add? - Let us know. |
